Promise to myself.

Maaaan, I've done a horrible job of updating the site.

New promise. I'm posting something new here minimum once a week. It's my new diary. I wanted to make quality content but my expectations of myself were stupid high, comparing myself to all my favourite youtube channels that I just froze up. Now I'll just use it to write down what I did this day.

2016 World Water Day

This entire week the Showerloop team will be running our Empower Your Shower campaign. Nothing fancy, we are simply following the principles of this years World Water Day theme, Water and Jobs.

Our goal from day one was to design a product that works well and share that design with others around the world. We hope that our design can one be the spark that will grow to a viable business and help others start their own Showerloop story. Remember people it all starts with a wrench, if you build it they will come.

The following is an e-mail I sent to someone writing an article about me for a French news paper. I've done a pretty poor job of recording all the articles that have been written about me in languages other than english. Also I'm not really sure if it makes sense to keep posting articles that have been written about the project since they often get a thing or two slightly wrong.

Purificator with Sunzilla & Faircap

We've always wanted to make Showerloop completely carbon neutral by taking water from nearby ponds or capturing rainwater to use in the shower, powered by renewables, of course. Together with Faircap and Sunzilla we'll get a step further with more applications like the one mentioned above.

Instead of water for Showers we'll be making drinking water. This shouldn't be hard since Showerloop already does this but it's easier to re-clean shower water than removing all impurities from the beginning. All three projects were at POC21.cc during the September of 2015 and now it's time to combine forces.

Vegas baby

So the next 10 days will be a real adventure. Right now I'm waiting at Helsinki-Vantaa airport to go to Las Vegas via Heathtow to attend the Autodesk University conference to learn about digital fabrication and the tools to do it as well as showcase the mini Showerloop or the Wishywashy hand washing station. Somehow managed to fit almost everything into a wooden box but to keep it under the weight limit I had to split the main filter components into 2 separate boxes. Really hope it makes it all the way there!

Almost there...

Another fun weekend working with Edu. I was constantly stressing if we'd get Wishywashy ready for the German TV crew that's coming tomorrow to interview us. It's still not done but trying to take it easy. We still have tomorrow to make it work with the crew and they wanted to see how we work anyway, so what's more genuine than trying it out for the first time in front of them?

Edu worked on the breadboard while I rearranged the piping for the 16th time. We're making progress but nothing is simple, when we fix one thing, another thing breaks mysteriously. Or actually we realize what we did wrong. E.g. Breadboard cables were either too long or too short, breaking connections.

Making progress on the electronics

So we're finally getting a grip on good bread boarding and we are shrinking the whole system to a manageable size.

We tried soldering components to proto board but we still need to learn some of the basics to get pretty results. Bread boarding is still a bit faster and more forgiving :)

Note to self; use the right pliers and grippy things. try not to break the wire while squeezing it, check the signal connections with a multimeter often, be consistent

Current Status Update

We are currently building WishyWashy which is basically Showerloop for a tap.

The idea is both to demonstrate another possibility for the Showerloop water filtration system and to make a slightly smaller version of the filters so that we can more easily travel to show the working principals of both products.

The focus is on getting the whole setup to work in a modular and easy to assemble package than can fit in the cargo hold of an airplane.
